Potocki Palace, located in the majestic Market Square of Krakow, is one of the most significant examples of Renaissance and Baroque architecture in Poland. Built in the 16th century and expanded in the following centuries, this palace served as a residence for the noble Potocki family, evolving over time into a prominent cultural centre due to its central location and architectural beauty. In addition to hosting important cultural and representational events, the palace is a true icon of Krakow’s history and culture.
Preserving a building of such importance requires advanced technological solutions, particularly in terms of safety. Recently, thanks to a collaboration between Creatio and Argus, Potocki Palace has been equipped with a modern Taurus fire detection system. This upgrade was essential to ensure the palace’s safety without compromising its historical integrity.
A hybrid system for maximum protection
The new fire detection system installed at Potocki Palace is a hybrid system, with 169 devices, including 101 wireless and 68 wired, all managed by two Argus control panels. Before the Taurus system was installed, there was an outdated detection system that needed an upgrade. The need for technological updates was clear, especially to comply with current regulations and preserve the historical value of the building.
The choice of a hybrid system was driven by the impossibility of installing wiring in some areas of the palace without risking damage to the historical structures, while also integrating with the existing detection system. This configuration allowed for unified management of the devices, ensuring constant and discrete monitoring, in line with the building’s conservation needs.
Flexibility, longevity, and speed: the system’s strengths
One of the most significant aspects of Argus’ Taurus system is its flexibility. The ability to configure wireless devices allows the system to quickly adapt to frequent changes in the palace’s internal spaces, which are reorganised to host exhibitions and events. Additionally, the long operational life of the devices—up to 10 years with a single set of batteries for the detectors and call points—minimises maintenance needs, ensuring continuous and reliable protection.
Another significant advantage noted by the installer is the absence of wiring in the palace’s main areas: «Thanks to the wireless system, we avoided installing wiring in the most delicate rooms, preserving the building’s historical integrity. I was particularly impressed by the speed of installation, which allowed us to complete everything in record time without compromising on quality».
In fact, the installation was completed in just 11 days in September 2020, despite the challenges posed by the moderate dustiness of the attic and the high number of visitors. This quick and efficient intervention was made possible by the technical expertise of the Creatio team, which seamlessly integrated the technology into such a complex and valuable setting.
